Drakes Fisheries to deliver over 80 free portions of fish and chips to residents at Harrogate Neighbours dressed as Land Girls and a World War 2 Soldier
Residents at not-for-profit organisation, Harrogate Neighbours will be treated to fish and chips and a re-enactment of war times by staff members at Drakes Fisheries to celebrate the 75th anniversary of VE Day on Friday May 8th.
Two staff members will dress up as Land Girls and another, who has previously acted at the Eden Camp Modern History Museum will dress as a World War 2 Soldier to deliver 60 portions to The Cuttings (12pm Friday 8th May), Harrogate Neighbours’ extra care housing scheme and 28 meals to its residential care home on Pannal Ash Road (1pm Friday 8th May) free of charge to mark the special occasion.
The re-enactment from Drakes Fishers staff members aims to entertain the residents from their balconies or at a safe, 2m distance, as per the Government guidelines. A communal sing along to “We Will Meet Again” by Vera Lynn amongst other war time songs will also be organised by the staff at Harrogate Neighbours.
Sue Cawthray, CEO at Harrogate Neighbours, said, “We had a host of activities to celebrate VE Day planned for the residents, but of course these have had to be cancelled for the time being. We’re so thankful for Drakes Fisheries and Eden Camp Modern History Museum for their kindness and generosity – we know the residents will be thrilled to celebrate this special occasion and we look forward to treating them all to tasty fish and chips and some much-needed entertainment!”
