Harrogate Neighbours recently transformed its Extra Care site, The Cuttings, into a vibrant hub of professional activity as it hosted its first-ever “Speed Networking” evening.
The event challenged members of the local business community to master the art of the "elevator pitch." With only 90 seconds to introduce themselves and outline their business goals, participants engaged in fast-paced, high-energy conversations. Every three minutes, a bell signalled the end of the round, prompting attendees to move to their next connection.
The evening was designed to break away from traditional, often formal networking formats, offering instead a fun and engaging environment. The focus was on fostering genuine connections and allowing local professionals to discuss the fundamental challenges their businesses tackle and overcome daily.
"We think—and hope—we succeeded in creating a space where people could meet and speak openly about their work in a way that felt both productive and enjoyable," said Jamie Nicholson-Ruther, Communications and Development Manager for Harrogate Neighbours.
The feedback from the inaugural session has been overwhelmingly positive, with the atmosphere described as lively and purposeful.
